Hotel Chocolat issues urgent recall over item that could contain pieces of glass

Hotel Chocolat has recalled one of its products over fears it may contain pieces of glass.

The item being pulled from shelves is the Hotel Chocolat Choose Your Poison, which is packaged in a glass flask with a cork stopper and contains 36 filled chocolates. It is sold at Hotel Chocolat stores, online and at John Lewis stores.

The product has a pack size of 160g and was sold between September 1 and September 26 and has a best before date of January 2024. If you purchased one and it has one of these lot numbers - 23205, 23206 or 23207 - you should return it for a full refund. You can find the lot number on the packaging tag next to the best before end date.

In a recall notice posted on the Hotel Chocolat website, the retailer said: “We’re very sorry that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience and concern caused. Please contact [email protected] for any additional support.”

A notice on the Food Standards Agency website reads: “Hotel Chocolat is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice."

For all product recalls, you can check the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites. You should also notice recall notices in stores if they've pulled a product from shelves.

Asda recently recalled a chicken product as it contains gluten that is not mentioned on the label. For people with coeliac disease or any other condition which makes them gluten intolerant, there is a “possible health risk” if they were to have the Asda Classic Boneless Chicken Dinner Joint. The Food Standards Agency said the 580g size pack with a use-by-date of October 1 is affected.

Earlier this month, Morrisons issued an urgent recall after a meat product was found to contain a dangerous bacterial infection. Customers who have bought the 200g Spanish Chorizo Ring from the supermarket have been told not to eat it and return it to their nearest Morrisons immediately - because it could contain salmonella.
