Sky Sports' Carabao Cup coverage explained as Liverpool vs Leicester not on TV

Liverpool kick-off their latest Carabao Cup campaign as they host Championship side Leicester City on Wednesday.

The two sides come together at Anfield in different divisions following the Foxes’ relegation last term. Jurgen Klopp ’s side have lifted the League Cup on nine occasions in their history - the last time in 2022 - so will be aiming for more of the same this time around.

Whilst Enzo Maresca ’s side will be keen to focus on Leicester's fight to return to the Premier League, an extended run in the competition would keep their positive momentum going. The Foxes have won nine out of their ten matches under their new Italian manager.

Given the good form of both sides, supporters might be looking forward to tuning into an entertaining match should they not make it to Anfield. They are set to be disappointed though with the game not due to be broadcast live on TV in the UK.

The reason for that is that the rights holders for the competition - Sky Sports - have plumped for alternatives. Of their two broadcast slots, both have already been occupied. Manchester United ’s clash with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening has already been shown.

That will be followed by the meeting between Newcastle and Manchester City at St James’ Park on Wednesday - the same time as Liverpool ’s clash with Leicester. Funnily enough, both sides are on TV later in the week.

The Reds’ showdown with Tottenham Hotspur in North London is set to be on Sky Sports Main Event on Saturday evening. Leicester will also be in front of the cameras on Sunday as they travel to Ewood Park to take on Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Before that, each will hope to navigate their cup clash. Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders has already revealed that the Reds are expecting a tough task against Leicester.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “We know we’re going to play against a team who has a lot of individual quality, it shows how they are doing in the league. A real clear offensive game idea, a very quick installation of this idea with the coach Enzo - he’s doing an unbelievable job.

“Each player of theirs could play in the Premier League to be honest, a few guys have this experience, but proper experience. It will be really hard for us to control their key players and at the same time, put them under pressure.”

Liverpool reached the fourth round of the League Cup last term, only to be ousted by Manchester City. Leicester progressed to the quarter-finals but were eliminated by eventual runners-up Newcastle.
