EastEnders star Danny Hatchard has hit out at a bar in Cheltenham - claiming door staff ridiculed him in front of a crowd of friends and colleagues and denied him entry.

The extraordinary incident took place within the past two weeks as 32-year-old Danny has been performing in Cheltenham as part of a touring production of the stage adaptation of The Full Monty - a 1997 film that starred Robert Carlyle as a male stripper. Danny, who has played Lee Carter on EastEnders on and off since 2014, has alleged that door staff at the Whittle Taps in the Gloucestershire town refused him entry and allegedly accused him of being involved in a confrontation in a bar across the street the previous week.

The touring production of The Full Monty took to the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham between the 14th and 23rd of September - and has since moved on to Buxton. Danny claims he and his casemates would frequent the Whittle Taps after performing - but he was suddenly barred from entry one evening.

The Sun reports that Danny took to Instagram Stories to blast the venue for their sudden change in welcome. He uploaded a photo of bar staff and directed his scorn at the venue, writing: “Can you please tell me why after socialising in your establishment after every show with the cast, I am now not allowed in.

"This employee has just attempted to embarrass me in front of the cast and a tonne of people who have just watched the show. Apparently, due to a very rude confrontation with a doorman at The Copa (across the road) last week, where several of my cast and creatives were present and witnessed the whole thing ...

“Apparently (according to the guy) you are the same venue. If this is true can you please supply bodycam footage of said confrontation just so we can all see how aggressive your door team are at The Copa. Then I'll be expecting an apology from this bloke for being incredibly childish and unprofessional."

The Mirror has contacted the Whittle Taps for comment. It is a sobering start for the touring production - which is due to be on the road until April next year and will take in performances in cities and towns including Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff and Belfast - among others.

Former X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden is among the cast - and has been left touched by the warm welcome the show has received so far. Posting a snap of himself on Instagram following the first performance of the run, he wrote: “Well what can I say first show down and lots to go!!! Was so amazing a standing ovation, tears and happiness that everyone’s hard work has paid off!! What a cast of people and friends already!”

Co-star Neil Hurst has also been giving fans updates on the tour - and posted a cast photo on his Instagram page on their last night in Cheltenham. He wrote at the time: "What a wonderful town with wonderful people. Thank you if you’ve seen us (literally) in the flesh."

Fans have been reacting to the cast with glowing reviews of the show. One wrote on Instagram: "Fantastic show, fantastic cast! Well done to all of you. Really was an amazing show. You all smashed it." And another commented: "Omg what an amazing show! What a fantastic cast! Well done guys, just brilliant."
