Michael Douglas unrecognisable in wife's throwback birthday tribute photos

On their shared birthday, Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones posted touching tributes celebrating each other.

Michael posted a photo of the two on his Instagram, a black and white snap where the couple have their arms around each other. Catherine is smiling at the camera with her hair held back by her oversized sunglasses, while Michael is in a white long-sleeve shirt and kissing his wife's forehead lovingly.

"Have a great new year darling! Wishing you a very happy birthday! All my love, Michael," he captioned the photo with a red heart emoji. In the comments, Catherine responded with a black heart emoji and the words: "Thank you! and Happy Birthday to you too darling."

The Chicago actress took to her own Instagram to share a touching video showing photos and videos of her 79-year-old husband throughout the years, starting with childhood photos and finishing with a recent professional headshot. "It’s Michael’s Birthday! It my Birthday! Happy birthday @michaelkirkdouglas, love you!" she captioned the video.

In his early years, Michael is unrecognisable in the photos of his younger years, including pictures with his father, famous actor Kirk Douglas. In one photo, young Michael is laughing while his father holds him, laughing too. Another photo shows the two of them looking at something Kirk is holding. The photos morphe into Michael as a young man, and then photos of Catherine and him hugging and kissing.

Also included in the photos are sweet family pics including the couple's two children: Dylan, now 23, and Carys, now 20. Catherine and Michael have been married for 23 years. In 1998, the couple were first introduced to each other at the Deauville American Film Festival in France.

A year later, the two were engaged. On 18 November 2000, the couple married at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. This was Michael's second marriage, his first was to Diandra Luker. The two married in 1977 and have one son together, Cameron, born a year later. The couple divorced in 1995.

But it wasn't an easy relationship for Michael and Catherine, the two started living separately in May 2013. According to Catherine's rep at the time, the couple were "taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage." By November of that year the two had reconciled and moved back in together.
