As her latest film won pretty much everything – all at once – Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to bring both her late parents with her. Even though they hated each other.

At this weekend’s Screen Actors’ Guild awards, Jamie won the outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role, and wore a ring her dad Tony Curtis gave to her mum Janet Leigh.

“They hated each other, by the way,” she laughed, after collecting her award from Emily Blunt, adding: “I was grabbing jewels to put on for tonight and I thought about my parents and I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Her film Everything Everywhere All At Once won almost every accolade at the LA ceremony, as it was named best cast in a motion picture, while Michelle Yeoh collected the outstanding performance in a lead role and Ke Huy Quan was given the outstanding performance in a supporting male role.

Michelle noted she was “up against titans” and dedicated her award to “every little girl that looks like me”.

Ke Huy became the first Asian actor to win his category, telling the crowd: “This moment no longer belongs to me. It also belongs to everyone who has asked for change.”

The cast dedicated their ensemble award to veteran James Hong, who is 94 – and vowed to return to the bash when he turns 100.

He said of starting out in the industry: “In those days... producers said the Asians were not good enough and are not box office – but look at us now.”
