Incredible deep sea footage shows a shipwrecked Japanese aircraft carrier 80 years after it sinked.

The Japanese ship sunk by the US Navy in World War 2 has drawn the attention of military experts after deep-sea footage taken by a team of international experts displayed the remains of the once buoyant ship.

This comes about four years after the "Kaga" and "Akagi" sea vessels were discovered by unsuspecting sea explorers in 2019.

The first-of-its-kind released footage of the "Akagi", which is the talk of the town among military experts and enthusiasts, shows very minuscule details about the ship that was sunk during the 1942 Battle of Midway.

An imperial chrysanthemum can be seen on the ship's bow along with visible machine guns. The team spent five days surveying the Southeastern waters of Midway Island earlier this month.

The experts explored the deep sea three times using submarines, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle with a sonar(AUV) and other equipment to plummet more than 5,100 meters below.

Both ships were found 18,000 feet deep underwater within the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, which is the largest marine conservation area in the world.

Until early September, the only ancient sea vessel discovered through exploration was the American vessel USS Yorktown in 1998. This makes the discovery of the two imperial carriers all the more exciting.

The Japanese Embassy noted that while the US and Japan were in a conflict when the ships were sunk, today the two states are allies who made an amazing discovery in the same waters.

“Today’s peace and tomorrow’s discoveries are built on the sacrifices of war," the Japanese Embassy said. It continued to say that the two nations must strengthen their ties.

The Eurasian Times noted that the event may be a painful reminder of Japan's historic loss. The 1942 battle resulted in the death of more than 2,000 Japanese troops and the destruction of four Japanese carriers. The US lost 300 troops and three ships in the battle.

The event is considered a massive tuning point in the Pacific war as the US heavily sullied Japan's aquatic defense prowess.

Japan's mission during the Battle of Midway was to gain ground in east Asia and the southwest Pacific Islands by replacing the US as a Pacific power.

One important aspect was annihilating the US Pacific Fleet at Midway in a surprise attack. Unfortunately, the US was on to Japan as cryptanalyst deciphered its coded messages.

US officials determined that the Japanese would attack somewhere on the pacific designated as "AF."

They even inferred when the attack would occur, which was June 4 to 7. The conflict was after the attack on Pearl Harbor during which Japan unleashed a surprise bombing of the structure.
