Strictly Come Dancing allegedly faces even more chaos

Strictly Come Dancing has been thrown into chaos after a celebrity has reportedly locked horns with their pro dancer ahead of the first live show on Saturday.

The latest drama comes just days after head judge Shirley Ballas revealed she was bedbound with a mystery illness and feared missing the first live show. Elsewhere, Adam Thomas is said to have sustained an injury while training which could also put his future on the programme into jeopardy.

Actress Amanda Abbington, best known for starring in the BBC series Sherlock as Mary Morstan, has threatened to quit the show after a number of rows with dance partner Giovanni Pernice. It has been said that Amanda has been left feeling miserable over Giovanni's "aggressive training style and attitude" during their training sessions.

A source told The Sun: “Giovanni is a hard taskmaster and takes the competition very, very seriously. “Sometimes his manner is incredibly brusque and this can upset his partners. Amanda was really looking forward to dancing with him, but has found his aggressive training style and attitude pretty difficult to handle.

Amanda previously shared her excitement after it was revealed she was paired with the 33-year-old dancer and said: “I went nuts because I wanted Giovanni, so it was a really lovely surprise.”

The actress, who previously married fellow Sherlock star Martin Freeman, hasn't had an easy start to her Strictly journey after suffering from food poisoning and a painful injury in recent weeks. She also bravely opened up about her mental health, admitting that when she split up from ex-partner Martin, she contemplated suicide.

After signing up to Strictly, Amanda deleted her Twitter account following social media backlash. The actress was hit back at claims she was transphobic after she made controversial comments that sparked fierce debate.

Fans threatened to boycott the series after Amanda tweeted her disapproval of a drag show aimed at parents with babies. She subsequently denied being transphobic and apologised for “stupid” and “ill-informed” past comments.

On Thursday, Strictly Come Dancing star Shirley Ballas has sparked fears she could miss this weekend’s shows as she has revealed she has been struck down with illness. The 63-year-old BBC star has been a judge on the long-running dance show since 2017 when she took over as main judge after original star Len Goodman bowed out of the show. And while Shirley has been a favourite for viewers, fans of the BBC show are anxious she might not appear this weekend after she gave a worrying health update.

The judge said: “What a difference a day makes. So back from Rome where it was busy, lots of people and then in the studio because we are running up to the Royal Albert Hall international championships. And yes I think I have caught something. So not very well today, not in work. Want to rest and make sure I’m ready for Strictly on Saturday.” The Mirror has approached Amanda and Giovanni's reps and the BBC for comment.
