Matthew McConaughey's alleged stalker was asked to leave his book signing

Matthew McConaughey thought ahead to protect his fans at a book signing recently.

Over the weekend a woman who has been bothering Matthew for years showed up to his book signing for his new children's book Just Because. But the True Detective actor thought ahead and proactively got a restraining order on the woman, sources close to Matthew said.

She appeared at the book signing, was promptly greeted by police, and was escorted off the property. Sources say that Matthew knew the potential risks of this woman and wanted to make sure his fans, many of whom would be kids as it was a meet and greet for a children's book, were safe.

Reportedly, the woman has sent the Dazed & Confused actor various emails, concerning letters, and even filed nonsensical lawsuits against him over the course of a year. He had been ignoring her for a while until he got word that she might be attending his book signing.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Matthew claimed that the woman had been harassing him since April 2022. The documents said that she sent the actor "unhinged letters, emails, and frivolous lawsuits designed to lure me into court to contact me."

She also reportedly thinks she's in a relationship with the 53-year-old and co-authored this children's book with him. Matthew wanted to keep any interaction with her as civil as possible, adding that he had never contacted her and wanted his security to treat her kindly and inform her that he didn't want to talk to her.

He found out that she brought a ticket to his event in Los Angeles at a Barnes & Noble at The Grove and planned to travel "over 300 miles" for it. He also claimed that she sent a "threatening email" to the bookstore before the event on 16 September.

This is Matthew's second book but his debut picture book. It came out last week and is illustrated by Renee Kurilla. The book's website states: "Filled with his trademark humor and wisdom, Academy Award–winning actor and #1 New York Times bestselling author Matthew McConaughey has crafted a soulful and irreverent collection of life lessons that empowers readers, big and small, to celebrate how we are all full of possibility."

His first book was a memoir named Greenlights which came out in 2020. It spent 55 weeks on the New York Times non-fiction best-seller list.
