Salt steam room, tepidarium, bio sauna, vitality pool… I’d never realised there were so many ways to get wet, hot and sweaty at a spa until I visited Carden Park.

The Spa at Carden offered up an elegant menu of indoor experiences designed to relax, invigorate and surprise – plus a beautiful garden with hot tubs, pool, its own glass-fronted sauna, a fire pit and a series of heated pods. When the Cheshire hotel had suggested partner Tim and I tried a half-day Garden Experience I’d wondered what we were going to do for all that time. As it was, I wished we’d had even longer. The Spa is a pretty special place – and it’s not just me who thinks so.

It’s stacked up a string of prestigious awards since it opened in 2020 at a cost of £10million, including the world’s Luxury Destination Spa and Best Country House Hotel Spa. To start, Tim and I took advantage of the unseasonably pleasant sunshine to explore the outdoors. The three hot tubs were large enough for several people and warm enough to fight off the chill in the air.
