Hugh Jackman 'struggling to re-boot' after split and 'suddenly looking so sad'

Hugh Jackman has lost his "energy and cheerfulness" amid his split from Deborra-Lee Furness after 27 years of marriage, according to an expert.

The Wolverine star took to Instagram on Thursday to promote a charity event in New York City which hopes to end extreme poverty. Alongside a picture of himself and a poster of the event, Hugh wrote: "Let’s go @glblctzn festival!!! This weekend in NYC - rain or shine. If you have tickets, have a great time in Central Park. (Or you can watch live. Click the link on my stories or Thread)."

In the picture, the 54-year-old offered a faint smile to the camera as he sat on a chair in a hotel room. Body language expert Judi James believes Hugh looked "so sad" in the snap.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Judi said: "It's so sad to see a man whose entire brand is about energy, optimism and cheerfulness suddenly looking so sad. Hugh is clearly wanting to re-boot that more upbeat brand following the split from his wife but his body language here fails to convince."

However, the expert said it seems as though Hugh is trying to move on. She said: "His pose looks open and his posture appears to be relaxed. That choice of a black T-shirt with the thick red circle on it seems to project a message of continuity as in 'Life goes on'."

Judi continued: "Hugh's smile looks incongruent though, because it is asymmetric. One side of his face wears an expression of resigned good-humour but the other half, (his right side) seen by itself, suggests pain.

"The brow is puckered, with a strong frown line and a strong line between the nostril and the mouth. His mouth on that one side is pulled up slightly at the corner but more in a wince than a smile."

Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced their split last week. In a statement, they said: "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."

According to the former couple, they are focusing on their family at this time. They explained: "We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
