Gisele Bündchen shares why she gave up alcohol after turning 40
Gisele Bündchen has opened up on why she decided to stop drinking alcohol.
According to the Brazillian-born model, she feels "more present" when she isn't ingesting alcoholic beverages, admitting the difference was noticed after turning 40. "It's socially accepted to have a glass of wine," she said. "And people even say, ‘Oh, it's healthy for you.’ Well, it is not healthy for me. If you want to ask of your body what I ask of my body, which is a lot, I can't be having all these things (alcohol, caffeine) because they add up," the 43-year-old mum added.
She said she "immediately" felt a difference, and her sleeping has improved. "I became more clear. I felt a bit more foggy before. Now I'm very sharp and very present and I notice things that I didn't notice before,” she added, “When I'm not drinking, I'm sleeping much better. You have to be loving to yourself. You ask a lot of your body, you’ve got to do a reset. You have got to take care of this only vehicle you got, right?”
The mother of two keeps a well-balanced lifestyle and cites meditation, exercise, and nutrition as the crucial things that keep her sane. The recent years have been a lot. Besides the COVID-19 pandemic taking over the world in 2020, she uprooted her family to Tampa Bay, Florida for her then-husband Tom Brady's transition from the New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She also started homeschooling her children during the pandemic - 13-year-old Ben and 10-year-old Vivian.
Privately she was handling both of her parents' failing health, and publicly she was going through a divorce from her husband Tom. The two finalised their divorce last October. "It's been very tough on my family. It's been a lot - in every area of my life," she continued to tell People magazine, "I feel like whenever it rains, it pours. With all the different twists and turns that life takes, all we can do is the best we can given what happens in our surroundings.”
