Michael Matthews became the youngest Briton to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1999, aged just 22. Sadly, however, it was not a happy ending as he vanished, with his body never recovered after summitting the savage mountain.

In a trailer for Spencer Matthews ' new Disney+ documentary Finding Matthew, the Made in Chelsea star explains his hope of climbing Everest himself to find his brother's body and bring him home.

Spencer will be joined by a team of experts as he heads to Nepal and the trailer teases a nerve-wracking expedition for the father-of-three.

Before his trip, he speaks to survival expert and executive producer Bear Grylls, who has previously reached the summit himself.

"This is one of the highest search and recovery missions in history," Spencer states.

Bear then adds: "On average seven people attempting Everest lose their life. No mountain is worth dying for a second time over."

In the trailer, Spencer opens up on his mission to bring home his brother and lay him to rest.

Looking at a photograph of his brother, Spencer says: "I hate the picture all I see is a young man in the process of losing his life. Michael was my big brother."

Spencer's mum then adds: "He was left alone on the mountain. It's an awful way to die."

The Made in Chelsea star explained: "20 odd years later we are sent this photograph of a body, it looks like it could be Michael. My heart says we should go and find him. And if we can, bring him home. We need the best people possible. We have one of the greatest, Nims Purja."

Nims is the world record holder for climbing all 14 mountains and will lead the team to search Everest's 'Death Zone'.

The 10-man search crew will come up against extreme weather and face a host of unexpected challenges as they race against time.

Matthew had already conquered the Swiss Alps, the Pyrenees and Kilimanjaro before tackling Everest.

Three hours after reaching the summit, he became separated from the pack and disappeared, presumed dead.
