Channel 5 has axed The Gadget Show after nearly two decades on air and 37 series under its belt.

The popular show, which first launched in 2004 reviewed and tested all the latest technological devices from all over the world. And viewers will remember its string of presenters including Jason Bradbury Pollyanna Woodward and Countdown's Rachel Riley.

However, amid a scheduling shake-up, bosses decided that the show is to be replaced by a money saving show called Shop Smart Save Money. This will be hosted by Angelica Bell and former Gadget Show's Ortis Deley, Georgie Barrat and Jon Bentley.

Angelica, who is a married mum of two, has been a firm fixture in the TV industry after guest presenting on shows inlcuding The One Show and she also took part in Celebrity Masterchef in 2017 - and was crowned winner. There was however an attempt to give The Gadget Show a bit of a face lift when bosses changed its name to The Good Gadget Guide: Shop Smart Save Money. But the format did not stand the test of time and the new show will air on 29 September.

A statement from Channel 5 read: "We understand that change can sometimes be met with mixed reactions, and we appreciate the feedback we have received from our viewers. The decision to transition to The Good Gadget Guide: Shop Smart, Save Money was made to appeal to the broadest possible audience while providing valuable insights and recommendations in the realm of technology. The world of gadgets is constantly evolving, and we want to ensure that our content remains relevant and valuable to a broad range of viewers."

The statement added: "Our goal is to strike a balance that appeals to a diverse audience while staying true to our commitment of providing valuable and engaging content in the world of technology." All the previous episodes will be able to be found on Youtube but fans were not happy about this.

One viewer wrote on Twitter : "The Gadget Show knows the fan base of the show wants the old studio format back like in the days of Jason and the later days of Craig but instead of giving what the audience wants they tell us via tweets to watch the old episodes on YouTube if you want that version of show."

Another said; "I don’t know if it’s Channel 5 or All3Media's decision, but whatever it is, they’re basically saying 'if you want The Gadget Show, just stream it on YouTube because streaming is the future!'" In 2017 former Coronation Street presenter Craig Charles stepped in to host the show but clearly bosses saw something in him that he didn't.

Speaking about presenting the show at the time, he said: "Have they lost their brains? They approached me and asked if I'd be interested and I was. Because it's a great show, it's something I'm really interested in and enthusiastic about, it's a new adventure for me. I've not presented for years, not since Robot Wars, and that was just playing a character, I was being the master of mayhem!"
