If you're wondering how to get Discord on PS5, here's a step-by-step guide on how to use the voice chat app on Sony's console.
After announcing that Discord would be coming to PS5 earlier this year, the voice chat application finally went live in March after a successful beta. All PS5 users can now access Discord on their console and use the voice chat feature, as well as the ability to turn on their PlayStation console remotely using their phone.
One thing to keep in mind when accessing Discord on your PlayStation is that some features such as screen sharing, streaming and soundboards are limited. Discord voice chat is also not recorded in PS5 console captures and broadcasts, so if you were hoping to record clips with your friends or stream your gameplay, then this might not be a viable option for you.
To use Discord voice chat on your PS5, you'll need to link your Discord account to PlayStation Network. To do this, go to Account Management on your PS5 console or on the PlayStation website. Then navigate to PlayStation Network > Linked Services. Select Discord from the list and then follow the on-screen instructions to link your account.
And you're done! Once completing the above steps you should be in a Discord call from your PS5, allowing you to chat with your friends through your console using your controller's inbuilt microphone or one of the best gaming headsets. If you're facing an issue be sure to update your PS5 console to the latest system software in order to use Discord voice chat.
It's worth noting that Discord voice chat is different to party voice chat, meaning you don't get features like Share Screen and Share Play. You can't use Discord voice chat and party voice at the same time.
Once your PS5 console has successfully connected to the voice channel a notification should appear on screen. Select View Discord Voice Chat on this notification.
If you do choose to Enable Turn on PS5 from Network, then your PS5 will only ever enter rest mode rather than turning all the way off, which means it will consume more energy. You can have a look at our guide on console energy consumption to see if this is right for you.
