Google Street View is beloved by millions - a handy tool you can use to explore just about anywhere. But have you ever wondered how the footage is captured or what fuels the drivers who travel across the world?

Well, one of the team evidently uses McDonald's as their go-to for lunch and now everyone knows about it after the hungry driver kept on recording footage during their pitstop. The driver was out and about in Poppleton, York, when they were spotted placing an order at the fast-food chain - much to the delight of internet users.

As TikTok account @googlemapsfun pointed out in a video taken back in 2021, "Google leaking their credit card at McDonald's." The clip, which has since gained over 130,000 likes, appears to show a disembodied hand paying with a card for their much-needed Maccies.

Viewers were left in stitches at the gaffe, as one commented: "Sitting in a car all day and munching McDonald's." Another wrote: "Imagine ordering a sneaky McDonald's and you get caught because a Street View car is right behind you. I'd have to move countries."

A third added: "And now their bosses know as it is stuck on Google Maps forever. Bet they regret nipping in for a burger now."

"Why didn't they just park up?", asked another.

It's not the first time viewers have been left stunned by an unusual detail on Google Street View. Back in 2018, a mum photographed in exactly the same spot nine years apart shocked users.

The first image, from 2009, shows trouser-clad Leanne Cartwright standing at a traffic crossing on the corner of Victoria Place with a carrier bag in her left arm and another bag over her shoulder. Bizarrely a second image, shot in August 2018, shows her standing in exactly the same position holding two bags in the same style - with the only difference being her outfit.

The civil servant posted the 'bonkers' images to Facebook, where she says she's been compared to a 'time traveller' due to the 'one-in-a-billion' coincidence.

Leanne, from Carlisle, Cumbria, explained: "It's like I'm frozen in time. I'm standing on exactly the same paving slab and I've still got a bag on my shoulder. It's so funny but so bizarre.

"People probably think I'm a time traveller. I did see the car the first time, so when it got published we went on and had a look. Everyone thought it was quite funny and I didn't mind at all." Searching for the first image, her husband then found the second. "When I saw it, I thought it was really bizarre. I hadn't even seen the car at the time, so I was flabbergasted," she added.
