Making small talk in a taxi can sometimes feel a little awkward unless the driver makes you feel particularly at ease. Depending on your mood, you may wish to engage in conversation - but other times, you just want to be left alone and will make it subtly clear that you're not wanting to speak.
Something else you'll want to be mindful of as well is safety - especially if you're travelling alone. Apps like Uber offer the opportunity for you to choose trusted people to share your taxi's location with so they can see how far away you are from home and can track your route. Or, you may simply share your location with some pals if you've chosen a local cab firm.
But what would you do if your taxi driver started to make comments that you felt uncomfortable with? One woman took to Mumsnet to explain that her taxi driver made some comments she wasn't happy with, saying she "wanted to say something" about his words but didn't want "to anger him."
She explained that she wanted to complain about the taxi driver, writing: "Taxi driver picked me up. Conversation started normally, just a little nosy about work etc. But then he commented that I look 'very very good' for having kids. Asked if I had a partner or was single. If he made enough money. I wanted to say something but I didn't want to anger him.
"He also watched me go in the house despite me telling him to drop me several houses down. Maybe a coincidence but they usually just rev off the second I get out. It wasn't Uber, just a local taxi firm with an app. Am I being too sensitive?"

In the comments, people said that she should definitely leave a review of the taxi driver if he felt her feel awkward.
One wrote: "Leave a poor review because their vetting is s***e and they won't do anything about it", whilst another fumed: "Report the creepy g*t."
Someone else said: "If you have the driver details you could contact your local authority taxi licensing team. They also play a safeguarding role and they may have intelligence about this driver and his behaviour with other customers."
"Definitely report", a Mumsnetter commented. "The rules around taxi driver behaviour are really strict for good reason. And sometimes it can take a few corroborating reports to build up enough of a picture to take action."
