The new social media app, which aims to rival Twitter, was launched today by the tech company, which also Instagram.

The app lets users move over their existing follower lists and account names from Instagram - but deleting threads risks also deleting your instagram account.

Similar to Twitter, the new social media app focuses on text posts. It allows users to post up to 500 characters of text and up to five minutes of video and links, as well as pictures.

People who have already downloaded the app have taken to other social media platforms to warn others over the risk of accidentally deleting an Instagram account, with many saying they are going to avoid Threads for this reason.
