When you meet someone on a dating app like Hinge or Tinder, it's not uncommon to hold off on becoming exclusive until you're certain it's the real deal.

But how long before the other person should stop swiping left and right and delete their profile? And how can you know for sure that your partner's dating app days are well and truly over?

A woman has claimed there's a very simple way to tell whether or not your significant other is still using Tinder regularly and her thoughts on the matter have gone viral.

Posting on TikTok under the username @trinniiitty the woman shared her public service announcement, captioning her clip, saying: "Spreading some knowledge."

In her video, which has since been viewed more than 2.4 million times, she claims that Tinder profiles don't often appear on the app if they've been inactive for a long period of time.

So according to Trinity, if your pal tells you they've seen your partner's profile on the app recently - it's likely they've been swiping left and right.

She proclaimed: "Just a PSA, if they're like 'oh yeah that's an old Tinder account they saw, I deleted the app a long time ago.

Tinder only shows profiles that have been active within seven days..."

Tinder has shared more information about how their matching algorithms work in a blog post that confirms they do prioritise matches that are active on the app.

They said: "We prioritise potential matches who are active, and active at the same time.

"We don’t want to waste your time showing you profiles of inactive members.

"We want you chatting and meeting IRL."

Thousands of people commented on Trinity's video, with some praising her for sharing the information and claiming this was how they had exposed their partner's infidelity.

"And that’s how my ex got GOT. And his first pic was him with MY DOG," confessed a viewer.

Another replied: "And here I thought I was crazy and this boy had the audacity to lie straight to my face."

However, not everyone was convinced it was completely correct.

Others pointed out that if a person had swiped through all of the active accounts in their area, they would eventually hit the inactive ones.

"My friend's account got banned like a whole year ago and she moved away and guys from her hometown have said they've seen her hella old profile," replied one.

Another wrote: "This isn't entirely true if someone is swiping A LOT they can hit inactive profiles eventually."

Trinity responded to these messages, adding: "I mentioned in other comments that it's not 100 percent certain that they've been active recently, although it's likely, it could be because they have no other accounts to show."
