A Muslim dad has slammed McDonald's after his daughter found a bit of bacon in her Filet-O-Fish meal.

After visiting the popular chain in Walsall, earlier this week, the pair were "horrified" to find the meat in her burger.

Under Islamic law pork is forbidden, which is why the family and young girl were so upset.

She had taken several bites of the burger when she noticed the large piece of pink bacon inside, BirminghamLive reports.

The girl's dad said: "My daughter found bacon in her Filet-O-Fish burger. Due to her religious beliefs and values, we want this to be known so it doesn't happen again."

McDonald's has apologised to the customer and her father about the mistake.

The fast-food giant said it was "extremely disappointed" it had fallen short of the expected standards on this occasion.

A spokesman said: "We’d like to apologise to the customer in question for their experience. We take order accuracy very seriously and have a number of procedures in place to avoid inaccurate orders.

"We are extremely disappointed that we fell short of these on this occasion and recognise that this is unacceptable. Our customer services team has also been in contact with the customer to offer our apologies and help find a resolution.”

Earlier this month a woman in the US won a legal battle against McDonald's after her daughter suffered burns from a chicken nugget.

The food-chain and one of its franchise holders were found responsible after a girl suffered second-degree burns on her leg from a hot Chicken McNugget that fell off a Happy Meal box.

A jury found the franchise holder negligent for not warning customers about hot food and McDonald's at fault for not providing instructions for the safe handling of the food.

The family's lawyers argued that the temperature of the nugget was above 200 degrees Fahrenheit, while the defence argued it was no more than 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Philana Holmes testified that she bought Happy Meals for her son and then-4-year-old daughter at a drive-thru window at a McDonald's in Tamarac, near Fort Lauderdale. She handed the food to her children, who were in the back seat.

After she drove away, her daughter started screaming. The mother testified she didn't know what was wrong until she pulled over to help the girl, Olivia Caraballo, who is now seven.

She saw the burn on the girl's leg and took photos on her iPhone, which included audio clips of the child's screams.
