A walker has described the other bizarre hikers he encountered on his climb up a steep hill in the Lake District.

Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, is a very popular walk among tourists and locals and features a challenging climb along narrow paths to the summit.

But once you’ve made the climb the last thing you expect is to see someone kissing the floor, or hear 80s pop blaring on the trail.

One man has taken to TripAdvisor to comment on the weird and wonderful things he experienced from his fellow walkers along the way, Lancashire Live reports.

Adam M reported Rick Astley fans, a man who needed a poo and somebody licking the Ordnance Survey marker at the top of the peak.

"Parking was okay free which is a bonus I consider myself a fit fellow and struggled up the first incline, there were numerous runners on the mountain that thought they owned the mountain and were quite rude with the insult of if your stopping already you won't make it,” Adam wrote.

"The more we walked up there was a group of lads walking playing music from what I must assume is one of them bluetooth speakers aptly the song was Rick Astley never gonna give you up. I wish they had.

"Once at the summit there was a long haired gentlemen moaning that he needed to use the facilities and not for a wee. And when heading to the actual summit point with the ordnance survey ring there was another guy on his knees licking the ring.

"But all in all a good experience me knees hurt would recommend to friends but make sure you use the toilet before as there is a lack of bushes"

Set near Skiddaw forest overlooking the River Greta in the north of the Lake District, Blencathra is one of the region’s most renowned peaks.

A very challenging route that will require careful footing, a head for heights, and scrambling experience as you make your way up the very narrow and exposed Sharp Edge to the summit of Blencathra and down the equally exposed and steep Halls Fell Ridge.

Sharp Edge is prized as one of the finest and most challenging of all the ridges rising to the summit, whereas Wainwright claimed that Narrow Edge was the finest way to any mountain top in the district.
