Downing Street has so far ruled out sending fighter jets to assist the war effort in Ukraine - but for how much longer?
Rishi Sunak’s government has admitted there is a very real risk of escalation if it helps president Volodymyr Zelensky in such a bold way.
Yet Mr Zelensky seems optimistic, telling a news conference this week: “Europe will be with us until our victory. I've heard it from a number of European leaders ... about the readiness to give us the necessary weapons and support, including the aircraft”.
UK defence secretary Ben Wallace says Ukraine is unlikely to receive British fighter jets until after the war with Russia is over.

This will come as relief to some allies, who have expressed concern that supplying jets could risk dragging Nato into the conflict.
The Kremlin has already warned that sending jets would elicit a military response, to which a No 10 official stressed 'it continues to be Russia that is escalating'.
