Ivanka Trump has always been the apple of Donald Trump's eye - and up until very recently was constantly loyally by his side.

The 41-year-old was an executive vice president of the Trump Organization, one of her dad's aides on The Apprentice and became a senior advisor in his presidential administration.

While her husband, Jared Kushner, was a senior White House advisor and was the primary participant in the Middle East Peace Process in 2020, as well as influencing the Covid-19 response.

However, it's become clear that Ivanka has been trying to distance herself from her controversy-ridden father amid begging, anger and a humiliating snub.

On Friday last week, Ivanka broke her silence on Trump's historic indictment on charges relating to 'hush money' payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels

"I love my father and I love my country. Today I am pained for both," she wrote in a post that appeared in her Instagram stories.

She added: "I appreciate the voices across the political spectrum expressing support and concern."

It was very diplomatic - and unlike the sort of angry sentiment her older brother Donald Jr has been spouting.

When Donald Trump announced he was making a US presidency bid in 2024 - he was joined on stage by members of his family.

While Kushner was there to support his father-in-law, wife Ivanka was very notably absent - and she has explained that she is finished with politics.

The 41-year-old, who is mum to three kids, Arabella, Joseph and Theodore, is putting her family first and wants to stay out of her father's political interests.

"I love my father very much. This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family. I do not plan to be involved in politics," she said in a statement on her Instagram stories.

"While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.

"I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and I will always be proud of many of our administration’s accomplishments."

But this was not Trump's desire, as he was reportedly begging his daughter and son-in-law to join him on stage.

During other daughter Tiffany's wedding in November, it was claimed that Trump spent time trying to cajole Ivanka and Jared.

He wanted the family to put on a united front, especially after his Midterms humiliation, but his appeals were clearly rejected.

"Trump thought he could convince Ivanka this weekend to come back and campaign for him as she was the most requested speaker after the president himself last time around … but so far she’s resisting his entreaties and holding firm, as is Jared," an insider told the New York Post.

"They both feel they got burned in Washington and don't want to go back and expose themselves and their children to another bitter campaign."

According to Trump's niece Mary, Ivanka 'doesn't need' her dad any longer.

Mary Trump, who has been a lifelong critic of her uncle and the rest of the family, said Ivanka has "finally realized that they gain more by staying away from Donald than they do by staying aligned with him."

In the interview with MSNBC, Mary said: "Donald is definitely losing value in terms of the party, and in terms of politics generally.

"And Ivanka and Jared are legitimately wealthy people apart from whatever Donald is doing, so they don't need him to the same degree they might have."

Donald Jr. and Eric, along with their wives, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Lara Trump, are all in for another presidential bid and have always been firm backers of their father.

But this is not the first time that cracks have started to show in his relationship with Ivanka, who has been trying to distance herself from her dad for a while.

Ivanka and Jared were hit by nepotism accusations while working in Trump's administration and got into rows with some of his prominent allies.

Some people did not like how much influence Kushner had over domestic policy debates, staffing decisions and even foreign affairs.

He was involved in brokering the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement in 2018, helped lead the White House COVID-19 response in 2020 and helped forge the Abraham Accords between Israel and four Arab countries.

But after he lost to President Joe Biden, there was a bit of a shift as the couple tried to distance themsevles from Trump.

In 2021, they weren't around for the usual spring and summer events at Mar-a-Lago, despite the physical distance between them not being very far.

"After spending four years serving and traveling the country extensively, Ivanka is taking time with family and friends," her former chief of staff, Julie Radford, told CNN.

Then came a big blow, when Ivanka seemingly turned on her dad by revealing she does not believe his election fraud claim.

Ivanka told the congressional panel investigating the insurrection at the US Capitol in January 2021 that she doesn't believe her father's false claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

"I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he was saying," said Ivanka in a video deposition in June this year.

Furious Trump hit out and responded by saying Ivanka was "not involved in looking" at the results of the 2020 election.

"Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results," he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

He continued to say that his daughter had "long since checked out" and in his opinion was "only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as attorney general (he sucked)".

It marked a strong change in tone from Trump, who had never spoken out against his daughter before.

While most people believe that Ivanka is his favourite child, it seems their relationship is nowhere near as strong as it once was.
