An Irish Lidl customer was left baffled after spotting an unusual secret coded message on a component of their breakfast. They were tucking into blueberries and yoghurt when they came across the code 'ABS' etched on one of the blueberries - and they were left wondering how it got there.

There was no obvious explanation as to what the letters meant, and this left the consumer confused, and in order to find answers, they took to the Reddit Ireland forum to ask others if they knew of the potential meaning behind the code, as they were desperate to crack the code.

They wrote: "Found this code (ABS) on a blueberry from Lidl. What is it?"

Someone explained to the Redditor that there was a simple explanation. They told them that the boxes are laser printed with a code, and so therefore the laser must've gone through a little hole onto the blueberry instead of the box.

They continued: "It's done with air compression or something so it's delicate. CO2 etching seems to be gentle enough to not harm the surface of the blueberry. So I've learned something new! Hope you have too."

Someone joked: "Ah so it's not the blueberries rock hard abs", whilst another wrote: "So much for my imaginary utopia with technologically advanced blueberries...Still, kinda cool that they can etch engravings on them though."

"This is interesting", a foodie commented, and a fitness fan wrote: "What you get if you eat healthy!"

"Antilock break system", a Redditor hilariously said the meaning was, finishing with: "Not entirely sure why you'd need it on a blueberry though. Maybe to stop them rolling off your spoon?"

Other Redditors made jokes about the meaning, including "Automatic Berry System", "Anti Blackberry Society", and "Another Berry Scanned."
