The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is set to increase the amount of money it pays out to people on Personal Independence Payments from Monday, April 8
From Monday, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be giving a financial boost to those on Personal Independence Payments (PIP), with claimants of any of 25 health conditions set to receive an extra £737. This is due to the DWP’s annual review of benefits in line with inflation, which this year was measured at 6.7% in September 2023.
As such, various benefits, including disability benefits, will see an increase from Monday, April 8.
State pension, Universal Credit, PIP payments and carers’ benefits will all rise by 6.7%, equating to an additional £930.20 per year across the four PIP payment categories. The DWP has confirmed that these changes to benefits payments will commence from Monday, April 8, as reported by Yorkshire Live.
This means that if you have a health condition or disability that impacts your daily life, you could see your benefits boosted by up to £737 over the next 12 months, or £9,583.60 per year in total from a maximum of £184.30 per week.
PIP payments are comprised of two elements for living and two for mobility. In total, this represents an increase of £930.20 per year, as per the Liverpool Echo.
However, each individual can only claim one of each pair, resulting in a maximum increase of £600 per person, and a final total of £9583.6 per claimant.
To qualify for PIP, you must have a health condition or disability that has caused difficulties with daily living or mobility (or both) for three months.
These issues must be expected to persist for at least another nine months. Typically, you also need to have resided in the UK for at least two of the past three years and be in the country when you apply.
