A derelict Welsh cottage in a charming village is about to go under the hammer with a starting price of £0.

The bungalow in Dyffryn Cellwen village in the Upper Dulais Valley may be crumbling and falling but it could end up being a real steal. The auction kicks off at midday on Tuesday March 5 and runs for two days. It's got an impressive 6,156 sq ft plot, right next to Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and close to the A4109 with road links to Neath, Swansea and the M4, reports WalesOnline.

The building itself is in a derelict and unsafe condition, meaning the auctioneers have not been inside and do not advise prospective buyers to do so. Auctioneers have had to cut a path through overgrown brambles, bushes and bracken to reach the front door.

Sean Roper, from Paul Fosh Auctions based in Newport, said: "The fact that the place has a guide price of £nil and may well be bought for a matter of a few pounds simply adds to the attraction. What a nil guide price means is that the amount the lot reaches over the course of the online auction is what it'll sell for when the hammer falls plus any associated auction costs. The final selling price could be just a few pounds. Ultimately, it all depends on the interest that there is and what bidders are prepared to pay for the property."

There is one small catch for potential buyers as the usual auction fees and taxes will apply. The basic fee is 1.2% of the purchase price, with a minimum of £1,200. But adding to its appeal, the property is part of a larger lot that includes around eighty properties in total. There are empty plots in Rhymney and Caerphilly and other properties ready for renovation or investment.
