Lorraine Kelly shared an update from Amy Dowden on Tuesday's show after the Strictly Come Dancing star's recent hospital dash.
The professional dancer, 33, was rushed to hospital last week amid her treatment for breast cancer, with the brave dancer revealing how her family were by her side during the tough time. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Amy thanked the NHS for the care she had received on the respiratory unit, as well as her husband Ben and family.
Sharing photos of herself in a hospital gown in bed, she wrote: "So last week didn't exactly go to plan! Feeling much better now and still taking it easy. But can't thank the nhs and the care I received on respiratory unit enough! Also to my family and Ben of course.
"Always dropping everything and spending endless hours next to my bed whilst I mainly slept. Feeling much better and thanks for the many messages after going quiet! Off to the oncology unit today for my monthly injection (missed it last week with being poorly). How is everyone? The sun is shining and I certainly can't wait for spring."
On Tuesday's Lorraine, the ITV show aired the last instalment of Amy's travel series with husband Ben, where they jetted off for a second honeymoon to Grenada and filmed the well-needed getaway as a segment. After the instalment, host Lorraine, 64, said: "You may have seen Amy was in hospital last week but just to reassure you, she says she's very much on the mend and of course we're sending our love to her. She joins us next Tuesday right here in the studio and she has got some big news for us all..."
Strictly star Amy Dowden diagnosed with breast cancer aged just 32It comes as Amy, who has previously talked about how she found a lump in her breast the day before her honeymoon with Ben in April, was forced to remind people to be mindful and kind when commenting on how she speaks about her own health battles. Speaking on her Instagram Story on Monday, Amy pleaded with her followers to be more mindful when it comes to commenting on how a person documents their own experience with cancer.
Filming as she walked around her house to show how her ongoing renovation project is coming along, Amy said: "Someone messaged me asking 'why you wearing makeup in your picture in hospital?'" She continued: "Obviously I didn't plan to go in hospital - I was actually at work doing a shoot and had my makeup done! I never planned to go in and that's why I share these things, to hopefully try and normalise it and so other people who are going through it can perhaps relate."
Amy then recalled how she had recently spoke with another woman going through chemotherapy, sharing how the woman thanked her raising awareness and normalising cancer treatment. "If just a few people start checking their chest because of me, I'm doing something right," Amy added.
The Strictly star then explained: "I get so many lovely messages but then I also get nasty ones and comments. Can I just say for anyone going through this, it's enough to be going through it, never mind with any added trolls. There is no textbook on how to deal with it or how I deal with it - there is no right or wrong. You do what you need to do - be kind guys! On this Monday, if we can be anything, be kind. Treat people how you would like to be treated."
