Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, comforted a scared high school student during the team's Super Bowl parade after a shooting took place.

The incident happened near Union Station and resulted in at least 10 people being shot, with one person losing their life. Gabe Wallace, a sophomore from Shawnee Mission East High School, was consoled by Reid amid the chaos.

Gabe also got a scrape on his head while trying to escape the scene. According to the Kansas City Star, Reid stayed with with the student until he calmed down.

The Biden administration is keeping a close eye on the situation, according to a senior White House official. Meanwhile, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves praised her officers for their bravery, saying: "I'm so proud of them that they ran into danger, getting two people into custody, and at the same time rendering life-sustaining aid to those victims.

"We were here for a safe celebration and because of two bad actors - or more - it is why we're standing here today. We will recover as a city."

Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill has asked people to join him in prayer for the victims in a tweet: "Pray that doctors and first responders would have steady hands and that all would experience full healing," he wrote. Patrick Mahomes, their star quarterback, tweeted soon after, penning: "Praying for Kansas City."

The team responded to the tragic event with a statement of their own. It read: "We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of Union Station at the conclusion of today's parade and rally. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City. We are in close communication with the Mayor's office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.

"At this time, we have confirmed that all of our players, coaches, staff, and their families are safe and accounted for. We thank the local enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist."

It was supposed to be a joyous occasion for the fans - up to one million of them were expected to be in Kansas City for the Super Bowl victory parade. They planned to witness their heroes lift their fourth Lombardi Trophy in franchise history following an exhilarating 25-22 win against San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.
