Princess Charlotte is already following in the footsteps of many other royals as she has expressed an interest in an art form that is popular amongst many members of her family.

Her passion for dance is something that was shared by her late grandmother, Princess Diana, as well as Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh.

When visiting a Yorkshire textile Mill Princess Charlotte’s mother, Kate Middleton, talked about her daughter’s love of ballet and tap dancing. Speaking to a 7-year-old girl named Emily the Princess of Wales asked what she liked to do. When Emily replied she loved to dance, Kate told her: "My daughter Charlotte likes dancing, she loves ballet and tap. Keep up the dancing."

In 2023 as a special treat, Kate also took Princess Charlotte and friends to a ballet performance of Cinderella at the Royal Opera House in London. This love is shared by Queen Camilla, who is perhaps the greatest fan of dance in the family as she is the patron of the Royal Academy of Dance - and is said to take Silver Swan dance classes there - her interests have certainly passed down to the younger royals.

The Prince of Wales spoke about his children's love of dance and gave a rare insight into their family life at home during an appearance on the Apple Fitness + podcast Time to Walk. Prince William said: "One of the songs that the children are loving at the moment is Shakira, Waka Waka. There are a lot of hip movements! There's a lot of dressing up.

“Charlotte, particularly, is running around the kitchen in her dresses and ballet stuff and everything. She goes completely crazy with Louis following her around trying to do the same thing. It's a really happy moment where the children just enjoy dancing, messing around, and, and singing."

But Charlotte isn’t the only one of William and Kate’s children to take up the much-loved family pursuit. At an event for BBC Radio 1’s Teen Awards, Prince William chatted to a young dancer about his son’s interest in the art. He said: “George is doing dancing as well, he loves it. My mother used to dance, she loved dancing. If it’s something you love, you do what you love. And it’s very rewarding. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. You keep at it.”
