With the Kremlin desperate to keep Vladimir Putin at the helm during the next Russian election, tensions are high, with the President securing the services of a top security guard, carrying an armour shield.
With the violence in Ukraine raging on, the 71-year-old is terrified for his wellbeing, utilising his new protector during a meeting with supporters in Moscow. While the crowd was made up of his most hardcore of supporters, security was on high alert, with Putin's protector ready to burst on stage should he deem it necessary.
The dictator was addressing 550 "trusted" backers who attended to speak for him during his campaign, while the muscle stood to one side with a briefcase which folded out into a bulletproof shield. His whole team were reportedly nervous as each member of the audience stood up to speak.
Telegram channel reported: “An FSO [Federal Protective Service] officer was preparing to cover Putin with an armoured shield at a specially guarded and checked meeting between him and his 'trusted persons’."
The group featured an array of prominent figures, including icons from the Russian business and cultural spheres, as well as a number of academics and journalists. The report continued: "All of them underwent standard quarantine, loyalty checks, as well as the deepest [vetting] from the security service, a thorough search. But, despite the ‘trust’…VChK-OGPU noticed an FSO employee with an armoured briefcase.”

The channel said: “When Putin spoke, the bodyguard was unmoving [holding the briefcase]. But as the ‘trusted persons’ began to stand up and ask questions, the guard moved towards the chief….ready at any moment to rush in and protect Putin.”
On March 15 to 17, the people of Russia will vote for their next President. However, reports claim that the contest is heavily rigged in Putin's favour, with the current head of state approving all other potential candidates with most of his independent opposition placed into prison or forced into exile. Putin is expected to receive an enormous 80% of the vote.
