Sony debuted the first PlayStation State of Play presentation of 2024, and it included brand new looks at upcoming PS5 titles, including Death Stranding 2 On The Beach and Helldivers 2.
PlayStation's first major presentation for 2024 may not have given us much in the way of finding out what first party titles we'll be seeing this year, but it was a strong showing nonetheless. The highlight of the PlayStation State of Play had to be the finale, which was a 10-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2 (which has the newly revealed subtitle 'On The Beach'). Considering it's a Hideo Kojima trailer, it would be impossible to actually recap what was in it or what any of it meant. Just to give you some examples; there's a talking puppet that looks like Alan Wake, Mad Max Fury Road and Happy Feet director George Miller plays a character in it, and a robot man wearing Joker makeup uses an electric guitar gun to fight a cyborg samurai. Kojima also confirmed that his next project for Sony will be a new entry in the 'Action Espionage' genre that Metal Gear Solid popularised.
Other highlights from the PlayStation State of Play January 2024 presentation included a new trailer for Dragon's Dogma 2, which continues to look fantastic. Sonic X Shadow Generations, which is a remaster of the best Sonic game with a new campaign featuring everyone's favourite edgy hog, and a new look at Ghost Story Games' Judas.
There was also a Silent Hill 2 remake trailer focused on combat, which is certainly a choice considering the kind of game the original Silent Hill 2 was. I'm still unsure about that one, but at least we have Silent Hill: The Short Message, which is available for free as a PS5 exclusive right now.

And that's everything that happened in the PlayStation State of Play January 2024 presentation, thankfully we won't have to wait too long for the next edition, as a PlayStation State of Play dedicated to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is arriving next week.
