Rumours have surfaced that we could be seeing a brand new PlayStation State of Play presentation later this week, with Death Stranding 2 and Silent Hill rumoured for the event.

2024 is off to a relatively slow start news wise outside of the Xbox Developer Direct (not in terms of releases, however, considering we just had Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth arrive last week). It looks like things are starting to ramp up once again, as rumours are swirling that Sony is preparing its first PlayStation State of Play to air as early as this week.

XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker posted on his Twitter account @Speshal_Nick the following cryptic message "On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and Kojima will fulfil his dream. Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it".

Once the top scholars on the planet were called in to decipher this Da-Vinci Code level mystery, Nick's tweet seemingly hints at a State of Play happening on or around Wednesday, January 31 and some of the games included. "Ronins will Rise" being Rise of the Ronin, "hills will remain silent until the dawn" being the horror duo of Silent Hill and Until Dawn and so on. Here's the full list of deciphered games from a thread on Reddit's r/GamingLeaksAndRumours:

While Nick is a reliable source, it's worth noting that Eurogamer has also claimed to hear that it's happening. Plus, this lines up with recent rumours from PlayStation leaker Billbill-Kun who recently posted about the Until Dawn Remaster, and Death Stranding 2's rumoured subtitle – 'On the Beach'.

Let's go to the beach

It's about time we heard something from PlayStation, considering we don't actually know what it's first party lineup is looking like for 2024. I was shocked to not see anything about Death Stranding 2 at last year's edition of The Game Awards, and it's been ages since we've heard anything about Silent Hill 2's remake. Plus it makes sense to get one last bit of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth news out there before it launches at the end of next month (here's hoping for a demo).

However, there is a part of me that is a bit sceptical. Typically because State of Play presentations are never usually this stacked. Sure, this could be the exception for the rule, but in the past the big blowouts have typically been reserved for the PlayStation Showcase. Regardless, I'd expect a PlayStation State of Play soon, since there's usually one of those and a Nintendo Direct around this time of year.
