Margot Robbie's brutal Barbie snub in this year's Oscars nominations is being "investigated" by her hometown police force.

The Mattel doll actress, alongside the Hollywood blockbuster's director Greta Gerwig, were not amongst A-list stars nominated at this year's Academy Awards. Her co-star, and Ken, Ryan Gosling did receive a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor nomination.

As a result, Robbie's robbery news made it back home to Queensland, Australia where she was born and raised. The Victoria Police force has since made a public statement, jokingly revealing their officers were investigating Margot's mind-blowing "robbery".

The local authority wrote on Facebook: "POLICE INVESTIGATE AS MARGOT ROBBIED: Police are investigating after a former resident of Ramsay Street was allegedly robbed of an Oscar nomination for best actress", attaching snaps of the popular actress.

The police force concluded: "We'd like to take this opportunity to remind all current residents of Ramsay Street and the rest of Victoria, to consider reporting any non-urgent crime, such as theft, via our online reporting tool."

It comes after Ryan shared his stance on the snubbing situation by paying tribute to both Margot and Greta. He said in a statement: "I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d being saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.

"But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.

"Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film."

Outraged moviegoers also took to social media to air their disappointment at the lack of recognition for Margot and Greta. One wrote: "Ken getting nominated and not Barbie is honestly so fitting for a film about a man discovering the power of patriarchy in the Real World." Another posted: "Nominating Ken but not Barbie is so on the nose it hurts."

A third scathed: "I don't pay much attention to award shows. But Ryan Gosling getting a nomination and Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig NOT getting nominations feels like something happening in the Barbie movie to further illustrate the point of the Barbie movie." A fourth social media user offered: "Margot Robbie you deserved so much better I’m sorry." While a fifth questioned: "I am genuinely feeling depressed over the Barbie Oscar nomination snubs, especially Greta’s, like what do women have to do in this world to be simply recognized?"
