Romeo Beckham enjoyed a dream debut for Brentford after signing for the club last week with his manager hailing his “unbelievable impact”.

The son of former Manchester United, Real Madrid and England star David, Romeo penned a short-term loan with the Bees’ B-team until the end of the campaign last week. He had previously been training with the side during the MLS close season in an effort to keep his fitness up.

Beckham, 20, was given the opportunity to make his debut as a Bee on Tuesday evening in a 3-2 London Senior Cup win over Erith & Belvedere FC. He initially started among the substitutes before being introduced for the final 35 minutes.

Brentford boss Neil MacFarlane was full of praise for the young midfielder after watching his side stage a dramatic comeback. As quoted by the Bees’ official website, he said: “Romeo really drove us forward in the wing back position.

“He created some really good moments for us with some terrific deliveries. He had an opportunity to score as well and I was thrilled with him and the group in general for keeping on the front foot. We never gave up and we got through.”

MacFarlane continued to hail Beckham among the rest of his teammates after the match with the on-loan Inter Miami star’s famous dad also having been in attendance among the 553-strong crowd. He added: "Our subs made an unbelievable impact and that’s what we want, everyone pushing each other and keep helping the group move forward because we had a brilliant 2022 and we just want to keep getting better in the new year.

“No matter what change in the shape or personnel I thought the response was incredible. We were on the front foot through Max Dickov, Romeo (Beckham), Kyreece (Lisbie), Byron (Wilson), all of them were making big impacts, J’Neil (Bennett) too when he moved position.

“We kept going and when it’s difficult to break teams down in late stages in the game we just kept pushing them back and we had a little bit of luck on the last goal, but we kept going with our quality.”

Beckham will certainly have hoped to have done enough to earn a start in Brentford B’s next outing against Aston Villa in the Premier League Cup on Friday evening, whilst they also have a friendly clash against French giants Monaco to navigate next week.

It remains to be seen if Romeo will impress enough to earn any senior outings for the club during his time in West London but Bees boss Thomas Frank hasn’t exactly denied that there could be an opportunity.

Speaking shortly after the initial loan switch was announced, the Danish schemer said: “Yeah, I've seen him [Beckham]. I think he's an interesting player.

“We hope, of course, like a lot of others that he can make it to the first team. Yeah, [he is] promising. Anyone who has got a contract here - be it a permanent deal or loan deal - there is always the opportunity to stay, of course.”
