Kate Garraway made a poignant appearance on Christmas Eve pre-recorded ITV show Britain Get Singing on Sunday night.

Hosted by Roman Kemp, Britain Get Singing saw five groups made up of stars from TV’s biggest shows - Good Morning Britain, Love Island, Coronation Street, The Masked Singer and EastEnders - take to the stage in a bid to deliver a show-stopping performance.

The show and groups support ITV’s groundbreaking mental health campaign, Britain Get Talking, and the festive TV event included inspiring moments in which the stars discussed their own experiences of mental health.

The broadcast comes as Kate, 56, has stepped back from all upcoming TV and radio work to be there for her husband Derek Draper as he fights for his life following a heart attack. Britain Get Singing is pre-recorded and was filmed weeks in advance, airing for the first time on Christmas Eve.

Kate appeared on the show alongside her GMB co-stars Charlotte Hawkins, Alex Beresford, Laura Tobin and Dr Amir Khan. During the show, Alex, 43, emotionally said of the group's song choice: "The meaning behind the song is quite poignant to me, it's about losing a dear friend, someone who couldn't see past tomorrow."

Viewers were quick to share their support to Kate during the show, with one person writing: "@kategarraway I just wanted let you know I'm thinking of you and Derek tonight. Always have hope and I'll include you in my prayers tonight" while a different account added: "Our thoughts are with you always. Stay strong."

It comes as Kate is set to spend Christmas Day by her beloved husband's hospital bed after Derek suffered a devastating heart attack earlier this month. Former lobbyist Derek has been left "fighting for his life" after suffering a shock heart attack with his wife Kate and their family forming a vigil at his bedside. He has been seriously ill since contracting coronavirus in the early days of the pandemic in 2020.

Derek was said to have been looking forward to having a Christmas at home with Kate and their two children Darcey, 17, and 14-year-old Billy. However, Kate is reportedly "praying for a miracle" as she holds a bedside vigil for her beloved husband. Derek had spent over a year in hospital and requires round-the-clock care after becoming one of the worst affected long Covid sufferers in the UK.

TV presenter Kate and her two children will remain in hospital as much as possible with Derek during the festive period. Sharing insight into Derek's condition, a source told The Sun recently: "It’s been a heartbreaking time for Kate and, of course, poor Derek. Sadly, his condition remains much the same. The children are aware of the situation and have been by their dad’s bedside as much as possible. The whole family is rallying around and trying to stay strong for one another. At Christmas time, this is especially devastating."

Following Derek's latest health crisis, it was reported that Kate has cancelled all upcoming TV and radio work in order to be there for her husband - including taking a leave of absence from ITV programme Good Morning Britain. Britain Get Singing is pre-recorded and was filmed weeks in advance, airing for the first time on Christmas Eve.
