Tesco has recalled one of its popular pasta dishes because it may contain “small pieces of metal” making it unsafe to eat.

The big four supermarket chain has asked customers not to eat its 250g Wicked Kitchen Spinach & Wild Garlic Ravioli.

This product is part of Tesco’s vegan range and is sold in the majority of its 2,800 stores across the UK.

The items which are affected by the recall are those with a use-by date of January 12 2023.

Tesco said you can bring the ravioli product into the store you purchased the product from and it would fully refund you for the purchase.

The supermarket also noted that no receipt would be needed for this refund.

In the notice, Tesco said: "We’re recalling one date code of Wicked Kitchen Spinach & Wild Garlic Ravioli 250g with a use by date of 12 January 2023, due to the possibility some packs may contain small pieces of metal.

The supermarket did not explain how "pieces of metal" ended up in the ravioli pasta.

"If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund, no receipt is required.”

“If you would like any further information, please contact Tesco Customer Services on 0800 505 555."

The product recall posters will continue to be displayed in Tesco stores until January 19 2023 and the supermarket has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused by the product recall.

The Food Standard agency first issued the recall for the pasta product last week.

According to the Food Standards Agency, a can be product "recalled", where customers are asked to return it or "withdrawn" from sale, which is when the product is taken off the shelves.

The Food Standards Agency issues the notice to both consumers and the local authorities so there is awareness off the problems associated with certain items of food.

In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Tesco's Wicked Kitchen range first launched in January 2018 with 20 vegan products of ready-to-eat meals, heat-to-eat meals, sandwiches and pizzas.

Over the first 10 months of 2018, the Wicked range and other chilled vegan food soared by 25% which lead to Tesco expanding the range even further that same year.
