Pop icons Sugababes have confirmed they are limbering up to unleash brand new music - just weeks after the shock release of their eighth studio album.

The original line-up of the chart topping band - namely Siobhán Donaghy, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan - are back on British soil and ready to create new tunes together.

The trio delighted fans in December last year when they surprise-released their album The Lost Tapes - much to the delight of fans.

And with the eight album sparking a bidding war to get the ‘babes back with a record label, the singers had revealed they are all set to make new music together while also preparing to embark on a summer of festival performances.

Appearing on BBC Radio 2’s Piano Room series on Friday, 38-year-old Siobhán said: “Now we can get on with the stuff that really matters – the music.

“Keisha’s back in London so we just need to find some time in the studio.”

Keisha, 38, is said to have relocated back to the UK from Canada in order to complete new music with the band.

While 37-year-old Mutya was recently spotted at the Mighty Hoopla Weekend in Bognor Regis last month as a festival goer - no doubt absorbing some inspiration from the pop performances at the seaside event.

Siobhán, Mutya and Keisha were, of course, the original line-up of the Sugababes, bursting onto the music scene in 2000.

However, the group adapted something of a revolving door approach to their line-up as members were replaced over the years until they split in 2011.

But original members Mutya, 37, Keisha, 38 and Siobhán, 38, regrouped in 2013 under the name MKS before later regaining the name ‘Sugababes’.

An album had been planned under the MKS moniker but was never released - until December last year when the group shocked fans by unleashing the album, branded The Lost Tapes, just in time for Christmas.

The album rocketed up the iTunes Charts to reach the Number 2 slot hours after being released - and The Sun subsequently reported a bidding war was sparked to secure the original trio and release further records.

A source told the publication at the time: “There are lots of Nineties and Noughties acts which reunite and it’s a bit cheesy and full of nostalgia, but the original Sugababes are actually cool, credible artists.

“The reaction from fans proves they are really a viable act to have huge success with new music.

“They have some great ideas for songs and reckon they can win over a whole new generation of Sugababes fans.

“The hope is that they will sign to a label at the beginning of the year and have new music out at some point in the next 12 months.”
