The bidding war on the property is fuelling the cost of living crisis that Mr Hunt is meant to be doing everything in his power to stop

Jeremy Hunt has been very quick to call on hard-pressed grafters to show restraint when asking for wage rises.

He said it is all part of his masterplan to tackle soaring inflation. So it must come as an unpleasant shock to the nation that the rent on a flat he lets out has gone through the roof.

The bidding war on the property is fuelling the cost of living crisis that Mr Hunt is meant to be doing everything in his power to stop. He should apologise for the fact the new tenants pay £300 a month more than the previous ones did – an 18% increase that was more than double the inflation rate.

His lectures to ordinary families and his claims that he feels their pain are nothing more than insults. The multi-millionaire is demanding workers make sacrifices he isn’t enduring himself.

Hospital hope

The evacuation of 31 premature babies from Gaza’s largest hospital is a bittersweet moment in a dreadful conflict. The patients and staff are yet more innocent victims of this heartbreaking war.

It is terrible the babies had to be moved, but now that they have been, at least there is more hope they will survive. We also greatly welcome the growing prospect of a deal amid the carnage.

The planned agreement would bring about the release of some of the equally innocent Israeli hostages that Hamas seized during its barbaric massacre in October, and would lead to a ceasefire, albeit a temporary one. Far too many innocent people have already been killed.

Loud and jeer

Nigel Farage getting a medical exemption from grim I’m a Celebrity... trials is unfair on the other campers. The loudmouth getting a fortune for going on the show but failing to give viewers their money’s worth won’t be the first time the hard right politician has short-changed our country.
