Spotting spiders lurking in the corners of rooms and inside cupboards can be a truly frightening experience for arachnophobes. This can lead us to search for solutions to banish the creepy crawlies from our homes. Thankfully, one expert has the answer to get rid of them and all you need is two basic household products.

During the colder season, you'll often see spiders venturing into homes and settle in kitchen and bathrooms as they look for warmth. "Like all species, spiders need water and moisture to survive. From sinks and dishwashers to the warmth given off by appliances, it's the kitchen and bathroom that create the perfect moist environment to draw them in," explained Mike Norton, Trade and Projects director at Magnet Trade.

He continued: "Although they are mostly harmless, we don't want crawlers contaminating our food or creeping up on us in the bathroom." While some spiders are harmless, other nasty arachnids carry toxic and necrotic venom. Their bite can lead to nausea, vomiting, sweating, and redness on our skin.

Luckily, there's an easy way to stop them coming into your home. Spider repellents can set you back from £5-11 at supermarkets, but you won't need to splash your cash with this simple hack. If you have dish soap and apple cider vinegar readily available; then you're in luck. The strong smell of apple cider vinegar repels most household insects and is particularly effective when combined with dish soap, reports The Express.

The vinegar should be used as a spray or can be poured directly over the eight-legged creatures to kill them. When combining the two items, you should mix one cup of water with one cup of apple cider vinegar, and add two drops of dish soap to the mix. Then, add it to an empty spray bottle and spray the liquid generously around your home.

Another expert also suggests rubbing lemon peel all over windowsills, skirting boards, and places spiders are inclined to perch on, as he explained that the citrus scent will "repel them away" whilst also making your home smell lovely and fresh. His other method includes sealing cracks to prevent spiders from entering your adobe.

Expert Mike Norton said: "Start by sealing any cracks or openings around your windows and doors with caulk, weather stripping, or sealant to reduce the chance of an initial invasion. With the cold weather approaching, getting this done now has the added benefit of retaining heat better in your home and saving energy through reduced central heating use and temperatures."
