Crowds of fans have flocked to an area of New York City to leave tributes to Matthew Perry, the beloved actor who played character Chandler Bing in the NYC-based sitcom Friends.
Floral tributes have been left on the corner at the apartment building which was used to film the show. Poignant hand written notes have been tied to lampposts and left on the sidewalk. Fans have also placed flowers and tributes outside the actor's LA home.
One reads: "The one where we lost a friend", in reference to the naming of each Friends episode. Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday, it was later confirmed that the star had died at the age of 54.

One note left in the NYC area said: "Could say goodbye BE anymore difficult?" in reference to the character's famous comedic one liners.

Other notes simply thanked Perry for "being our friend." Speaking at the scene, one fan said: "Friends was part of my life it was my childhood. It is one of the biggest things I remember growing up. I lived in Kentucky and always dreamed of what it would be like to live in New York and Friends was a part of that drive to live here and be a part of it."

The fan commented how 20 years on he still watches the show "all the time". He continued: "I know he went through some hard times so it is just kind of really sad and devastating after everything he went through to get better. I just wanted to come and pay my respects and say thanks for everything."
The fan told how one of his favourite Chandler Bing moments was when he did a "goofy" dance to distract his friends from an argument.
One fan admitted that every time she is asked what she looks for in a guy, she always replies "Chandler Bing." The woman said: "He was the funny guy but also really kind."

Some fans in the area were seen wearing Friends merchandise as they looked on and read the hand written tributes left for Perry.
Social media has been flooded with tributes from fans of the 90s sitcoms and fellow celebrities, describing Perry as one of a kind.
Perry's ex-girlfriend, Gwyneth Paltrow, shared a touching tribute about the "magical summer" they shared together before the two became famous.
