Taylor Swift gets 'real football' invite from US star after Travis Kelce game

Another NFL Sunday, another camera shot of music sensation Taylor Swift enjoying herself in the box seats as the pop star takes in the 9-5 of her new partner and Kansas City Chief tight-end Travis Kelce.

The unlikely collision course of loyal Swifties and staunch NFL die-hards has tossed up hysterical moments and memes throughout the start of the new American football season.

But where Swift certainly looks to be enjoying watching one of the league's premiere pass-catchers in Kelce, long-time friend Alex Morgan, who plays for NWSL side San Diego Wave, has issued an invitation to Swift to catch a “real football” match rather than the American version.

“There's an open invitation, always,” the striker said when asked about whether she might invite her famous friend to a match after her team’s 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville on Sunday night.

Morgan then quipped: “American football games are fun but real football games are even more fun.”

Swift, 33, and Morgan, 34, have long been one of modern culture’s most influential and powerful woman power duos, transcending the individual realms of sport, music and general pop culture to make waves in nearly every direction.

Swift announced the USWNT's all-time leading goalscorer's spot on the Women's World Cup roster this summer in a video packed with myriad famous names, including President Joe Biden and NBA legend Shaquille O'Neil.

"I mean, she's honestly one of the best humans that I've ever come across," Morgan raved of Swift.

"She is so supportive. She's all about women empowerment. We both share our favorite number, number 13, born the same year, in 1989. We've just been really supportive of each other's careers."

In 2015 after claiming back-to-back Women’s World Cup titles with the USWNT, three-time finalist for FIFA World Player of the Year Morgan brought the trophy to Swift’s 1989 World Tour.

Despite Morgan hoping to grace Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour with a third Women’s World Cup trophy, the reigning world champs crashed out of the round of 16 on penalties to Sweden, marking the worst-ever title defence in the showpiece event’s history.

Morgan has since seemingly embarked on a redemption tour on the domestic front, scoring in Sunday’s victory to ensure the nascent Wave to a first-ever league title in just its second year of existence.

Topping this year’s table with an 11-7-4 record, the Wave enter the 2023 NWSL Playoffs with the No. 1 overall seed and will play the winner of the playoff match between Megan Rapinoe’s OL Reign and Natalie Portman’s Angel City.
