Patrick Mahomes has joined elite company as he became just the third quarterback in NFL history to register multiple seasons of over 5,000 passing yards in a career alongside Drew Brees and Tom Brady.

On Sunday, Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a win over their AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos. The Chiefs - who moved to 13-3 with the victory - were forced to battle to earn their 27-24 win over the Broncos, who sunk to a 4-12 record.

Chiefs quarterback Mahomes starred once again against the Broncos as he completed 29-of-42 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns to just one interception. It was another electric performance as he eyes a second MVP award in his incredible career.

In 2022, Mahomes has led his Chiefs to the AFC West division title and is firmly in the MVP conversation following another impressive season. The 27-year-old - who won the 2018 MVP award - has thrown for NFL-best marks in passing and scoring with 5,048 yards and 40 touchdowns with a single regular season game remaining.

In the win over the Broncos, Mahomes matched Brady and Brees by becoming just the third quarterback in NFL history to register multiple seasons with 5,000 or more passing yards in a single campaign. He passed the milestone mark with a 17-yard touchdown to Blake Bell.

It is the second time in Mahomes’ young career he has passed for 5,000 yards in a campaign, matching the number of times Brady has achieved the feat across his illustrious career. However, Brees is in a league of his own when it comes to passing the milestone as the New Orleans Saints legend accomplished it on five occasions.

When Mahomes won the MVP award in 2018, the Chiefs quarterback also took home NFL Offensive Player of the Year honours. He currently leads the league in multiple categories, including passing yards and touchdowns.

The Chiefs will hope to improve their record to 14-3 and potentially secure the first seed in the AFC ahead of the postseason when they visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night. The Raiders put up an admirable fight against the San Francisco 49ers but ultimately lost 37-34 to get officially eliminated from the playoffs with a 6-10 record.

Mahomes and co. will undoubtedly keep a keen eye on the clash between the 12-3 Buffalo Bills and 11-4 Cincinnati Bengals, who play on Monday Night Football.
