Rumours that Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is dating Taylor Swift have led to an apparent request to broadcasters from the NFL.

Ever since the start of September, there has been speculation that Kelce and Swift have begun dating. Since then, the rumours have led to increasing headlines surrounding the apparent romance between the pair.

Neither Kelce nor Swift has either confirmed or denied the rumours of a relationship, although the Chiefs tight end has spoken about the singer on his podcast, ‘New Heights’, in recent days. And Swift has attended two Chiefs games in a row to watch him in action.

Now a fresh report has emerged of the NFL seemingly trying to take advantage of the recent hype around Swift and Kelce. A report from the New York Post has claimed that the NFL asked broadcasters to air a Swift-related commercial.

It has been claimed that the NFL sent a request to ESPN, NBC, Fox and CBS to air a commercial for Swift’s upcoming concert movie “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”. The report says the request involved airing the commercial for free over the course of last weekend, Week Four of the 2023 NFL season.

As it turned out, the report says that only ESPN and NBC chose to air a commercial for Swift’s movie. ESPN’s commercial is said to have aired during “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “Monday NFL Countdown”, while NBC had the commercial air during the pre-game show “Friday Night in America”.

However, Fox and CBS are reported to have chosen not to air the commercial over the weekend. The NFL and the networks declined to comment to the New York Post while Swift herself could not be reached.

Swift has attended two Chiefs games since the rumours that she is dating Kelce first emerged. The world-famous pop star was at Arrowhead Stadium on September 24 for the win over the Chicago Bears, before she made the trip to the MetLife Stadium a week later for the game against the New York Jets.

NBC was broadcasting the Week 4 game between the Chiefs and the Jets, with a commercial for Swift’s movie airing during the coverage. The report goes on to say that the advert was paid for, with it also stating that the typical 30-second running time ads usually cost in the “million-dollar neighborhood”.

Next up for the Chiefs is a road game against the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday at the U.S. Bank Stadium. CBS will be broadcasting the game, and it remains to be seen if a commercial promotion of Swift’s movie, which will be released in theatres on October 13, will feature during the broadcast.

Kelce was recently asked about the attention he and Swift have been getting from the NFL while appearing on the ‘New Heights’ podcast which he co-hosts alongside his brother, Jason Kelce. The Philadelphia Eagles centre asked his brother for his honest opinion on the recent coverage concerning Swift.

"I think everybody is just overwhelmed with," Kelce answered, before Jason added: "Take away your feelings for Taylor, what is your honest opinion on how the NFL is treating celebrities at the games?"

"I think it’s fun when they show who else is at the game,” Kelce replied. “I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere… But at the same time, I think they’re overdoing it a little bit — especially my situation. They’re just trying to have fun with it."
