One of the UK’s prettiest villages, “unbeatable” in its beauty according to visitors, has become the victim of a surprising scandal.

Solva, a picturesque harbour village in Pembrokeshire, is known for its fantastic places to eat, wonderful coastal walks and unusual shops. But villagers are up in arms after someone stole two stone eagles from the front of a property. The majestic garden ornaments weigh around 20 kg each and fit seamlessly into the picturesque seaside surroundings. Police are investigating and have appealed for any help from witnesses who may have spotted - or have any information on - the scandalous mystery thief.

They were stolen off the gatepost of the property, between 10pm on Friday, September 1 and 10am on Saturday, September 2. A spokesperson for the police described the stolen ornaments as “eagle concrete statues weighing approximately 15-20 kgs each”.

“Anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation, or anyone who has been offered the opportunity to purchase the statues, is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police,” they added.

Solva is named in Condé Nast Traveler’s 20 most beautiful towns and villages in Britain, based on its amazing scenery, architecture and traditional harbour. Condé Nast said: "Even on the greyest day Solva adds a flash of colour to the Pembrokeshire coast, with its brightly painted cottages. Take the plunge off the harbour wall at high tide and scale The Gribin - a rocky headland at the entrance to the harbour - for views along the coast and across to St Brides Bay.

A brilliant place for a seaside getaway from the stresses of working life, it can get busy in the summer - but is still totally worth it according to very positive Tripadvisor reviews across the board. An ice cream from Pointz Castle is highly recommended, followed perhaps by a spot by the sea to enjoy the fresh local fish with a takeaway fish and chips, Condé Nast says.
