Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has been accused of being disrespectful by an opposing player.

The Chiefs were in NFL action on Sunday as the reigning Super Bowl champions traveled to Florida to face the Jacksonville Jaguars. The AFC West franchise claimed a 17-9 at the TIAA Bank Field thanks to two touchdown passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Jaguars failed to score a single touchdown against the Chiefs defense on Sunday. The home team’s offense, led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, found the red zone three times but could only score a field goal on each occasion.

Kelce was making his first appearance for the Chiefs of the 2023 NFL season. The tight end missed out on playing in the Week One opener against the Detroit Lions after sustaining a knee injury during practice.

However, one Jaguars player did not like what he saw from Kelce during Sunday’s game in Florida. Jacksonville safety Rayshawn Jenkins accused Kelce of showing ‘disrespect’ during the game at TIAA Bank Field.

“Of course [Kelce]’s a good player, but he’s a little too extra, at times,” Jenkins told News4Jax. “He gets to disrespecting, he feels like he’s above people. We’re all men out there, let’s just play the game.”

Kelce was playing in his first game of the season, and did not take long to score his first touchdown. He received a pass in the end zone from Mahomes to help extended the lead for the Chiefs in the third quarter.

After the game, Kelce spoke to reporters about the manner of his knee injury, which was caused after he hyperextended his leg during practice. The Chiefs tight end praised the organisation’s medical staff for helping his recover quickly to get back on the field a little over a week later.

“It was a routine play, [I] got caught in a bad position,” said Kelce in a post-game press conference on Sunday. “Just got to be more fundamentally sound, I guess, and just make sure that before practice or throughout the week everything is firing so that I don’t put myself in a position like that.

“Initially I thought ‘What the heck happened?’, and hopefully there’s nothing severe. But once I started working out with the training staff, doing a lot of the rehab, just put full trust in the medical staff that we have here, and I was able to get out there and help.

When asked how his knee felt during the win over Jacksonville, Kelce added: “I’m not going to say it was an issue at all. Everything that you saw out there was 100% what I could give. And hopefully, next week we can get even better from it.”
