Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has criticised the team’s “embarrassing” loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Jaguars were beaten 17-9 on Sunday in the Week Two contest at the TIAA Bank Field in Florida. Lawrence did not complete a single touchdown pass in the game, in fact, the Jaguars did not get in the endzone once against the Chiefs.
Across the four quarters, the only scores for the Jaguars came from three field goals. Lawrence and the Jaguars offense found the redzone on three occasions, but could not make it count by scoring a touchdown.
As a result, the Jaguars slipped to 1-1 after the opening two weeks of the 2023 NFL regular season. It follows on from the opening game win over the Indianapolis Colts on September 10.
Lawrence completed 22 of 41 passes with 216 total passing yards. He did not complete a touchdown pass but did avoid throwing an interception against the Chiefs defense.

By contrast, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed two touchdown passes after throwing 29 of 41 with 305 total passing yards. The reigning NFL MVP did throw an interception, but it wasn’t enough to cost his team the result against the Jaguars.
Lawrence was far from pleased with the performance from himself and the rest of the Jaguars offense against the Chiefs. The quarterback labelled the loss in their home stadium as “embarrassing” and called on himself and his teammates to show their true abilities.
“We’re better than that,” Lawrence told reporters in his post-game press conference on Sunday. “We’re a better team. We’re a better offense than that.
"And I think that’s what’s disappointing, is when you know what you’re capable of.
“We’ve got so many weapons. Like, we got to be able to put points on the board and score. And that’s just kind of embarrassing.”
“I'm not concerned, but it's something we’ve got to fix,” Lawrence added. “It's definitely an issue. We’ve got to all look in the mirror and be accountable and be critical of ourselves. It’s all of us.
“We’ve got to make those plays and that's what the good and great teams do and we didn't do it today.”
Next up for Jacksonville is the second on a run of three consecutive home games at the TIAA Bank Field. The Houston Texans are the Week Three opponents for Lawrence and Co, before that is followed by another home game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week Four.
