Anderson Silva deleted a furious message aimed at Israel Adesanya after he lost his UFC middleweight title to Sean Strickland.
Adesanya was expected to make light work of top contender Strickland at UFC 293 last weekend but the fight went quite the opposite as he lost his world title by unanimous decision. Strickland's win is one of the biggest upsets in MMA history and Silva surprised many fans by taking aim at Adesanya after the fight.
Lashing out at 'The Last Stylebender' on Instagram, UFC legend Silva wrote: "I'm the one in charge of this s*** here, and you're not going to open your mouth again to compare yourself to me in this s***. Do you understand? I'm the one in charge of this s*** here.” The post was quickly removed by Silva but eagle-eyed fans were quick to re-share it before he deleted the evidence.

Silva's criticism of Adesanya comes as a surprise as the middleweights previously shared the octagon at UFC 234 in 2019. Adesanya was full of praise for Silva before eventually defeating him by decision as he said: “This guy inspired me to be able to believe a skinny black guy can just come in here and f*** everyone up. He brought me into this game and for me, it will be an honour to take him out the game.”

Silva hugged Adesanya after the fight and told him: "Don't lose focus for the fight. You come in here and stay for the rest of your life, you are the best now. I passed the baton, you are the best. Thanks for everything and making my life better." The loss marked the last time Silva headlined a UFC pay-per-view and he went on to fight twice more for the promotion before retiring and crossing over to boxing.
Adesanya missed out on the chance to equal Silva's record for the longest winning streak in UFC middleweight history [13] when he was knocked out by Alex Pereira last November. The Nigerian-born Kiwi reclaimed his belt by stopping Pereira in their rematch in April, but has now suffered another setback after his defeat to Strickland.
"I had a different plan for this, but life throws curveballs at you," Adesanya said after the fight. "Win or lose I wasn't going to say much anyway, but I lost to the better man on the night. I want to go with people who care about me and they're waiting for me, so I'll leave you with that."
