There's nothing quite like the heartbreak of knowing your favourite chocolate is being discontinued - us Brits have been forced to say goodbye to many a sweet treat. However, Nestle have revealed they're bringing back a fan favourite Quality Street flavour after it disappeared from the selection box two decades ago, leaving fans elated.
So which sweet has made the cut for its big return? None other than coffee creme. Quality Street lovers will be pleased to know the flavour they thought was gone forever is making an iconic return in time for Christmas. After all, what festive is complete without indulging in one too many choccys? However, there's one catch: shoppers shouldn't expect to see it in the well-known tubs.
The sweet treat will only be found inside Quality Street's festive cracker and advent calendars this year. So if you wanted to pick one up, you'll only be able to pick them up in Waitrose and John Lewis stores from September 20. It comes after Nestlé asked fans which retro sweet they would most like to see return to the shelves. A statement on their website read: "We asked - and the nation has spoken. The favourite retro Quality Street sweet is…the coffee crème. It may have been out of our tubs and tins for more than 20 years, but the coffee crème has not been forgotten.
"Not only does it have a Facebook group dedicated to its return, but Nestlé receives more enquiries about the coffee crème than any other discontinued Quality Street variety. Now its status has been cemented after it topped our poll of most-loved throwback sweets. Receiving more votes than the bottom three varieties combined, only the Almond Octagon mounted a serious challenge to the coffee-flavoured favourite."
With over 8000 votes for its return, compared to the Almond Octagon in second place with 5312 votes, it was a strong winner. Shoppers also took to social media to share their thoughts. "Needs to come back permanently. Coffee crème was my favourite as a child and my whole family would fight over them," one fan wrote.
Shop prices 'are yet to peak and will remain high' as inflation hits new heightsAre you a Quality Street fan? We will keep you updated with the release of the highly anticipated return of the coffee crème and have contacted Nestlé for any further updates. It comes after Nestlé launched a brand new Quality Street Collisions bar earlier this month that left fans divided. The unique treat blends together two of the most popular chocolates from the Quality Street tins - The Purple One and the Green Triangle. It combines caramel, creamy hazelnut, and crunchy hazelnut pieces in three chocolatey layers and first appeared in Asda, although it is set to come to further supermarkets later this month.
