Danny Masterson has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the rape of two women. He was facing 30 years to life for the charges, but the defence only asked for concurrent sentence of 15 years.
After several days of deliberation, a jury found the That 70s Show actor guilty of the crimes on May 31. The assaults occurred in 2003; during which time he was actively filming the series. Masterson was also alleged to have raped a third woman. The jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision on the third allegation and the charges were dismissed.
The judge in the case said as she handed down the verdict: "Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person's choice and voice. Your actions 20 years ago today were criminal, and that's why you are here."
Originally, this case was ruled to be a mistrial in December 2022. After the finalised May 31 conviction, the defence has asked for yet another new trial. The request was denied by Judge Charlaine Olmedo who heard impact statements from the two unnamed survivors before making the sentencing.

They argued that he used his status in the Church to dodge responsibility and consequences. All three women who brought complaints against him were also members of the Church. They reportedly were discouraged by the Church of filing reports or coming forward.

California does not have a statute of limitations for sexual assault. So, although these incidents occurred 20 years ago, the women were able to come forward years later.

The information included the survivors' addresses and police reports. These lawyers are no longer working on the case.
Prior to May 31, Masterson was allowed out on bail, but following his conviction he was deemed a 'flight risk' and taken into custody.
