Wrexham missed out on the deadline day signing of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate Town as they failed to complete the paperwork in time.

The Welsh side, who are back in the football league and backed by the millions of Ryan Reynolds, were attempting to do some late business as they eyed Armstrong from the Yorkshire outfit, but have seen their ambitions ended after time proved to be against them.

A statement from an EFL spokesperson read: "The registration of Luke Armstrong from Harrogate to Wrexham has been rejected on the basis of the paperwork not being submitted by the necessary deadline."

Wrexham themselves issued a statement on the matter: Wrexham AFC can confirm terms were agreed to sign Harrogate Town striker Luke Armstrong on Transfer Deadline Day, with paperwork submitted for his signing. Unfortunately, the required documentation and clearance requests could not be completed in time and his registration has been rejected.

As a result, Luke remains a Harrogate Town player. The Club would like to thank the player for choosing to join Wrexham earlier in the day and are disappointed that this cannot now happen (pending any appeal). No further comment will be made at this time.

The 27-year-old is into his third season with Harrogate and has hit double figures in his past two seasons in the fourth tier. Already the striker has got off the mark this season but will continue to aid the Yorkshire side, rather than Wrexham, whom they play for the first time in late November.

Wrexham won the National League last term with Paul Mullin firing them to glory, scoring on 47 occasions. However their star man was injured in a pre-season friendly, leaving Phil Parkinson light in attack. During the summer they added Will Boyle, James McClean, Liam Hall and George Evans on permanent deals.

They sit 16th in League Two after five games having won once, drawn three times and lost to MK Dons on the opening day. Harrogate are one place below Wrexham by virtue of an inferior goal difference.
