Man Utd move quickly to secure £5m transfer replacement as exit gathers pace

Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson is to undergo a medical ahead of a move to Crystal Palace.

United have allowed the England international to travel to London to finalise the details of his departure to Selhurst Park, despite on-going talks with Palace over whether the deal will be a loan or a permanent transfer. United value the 26-year-old at £20million and were hoping to sell him to Nottingham Forest after allowing him to spend last season at the City Ground on loan.

Palace are looking to get a permanent deal, worth £15million plus £5m in add-ons, over the line - but could also look to arrange a loan with an obligation to buy next summer if that works for both parties. Eagles director of football Dougie Freedman was at Old Trafford when Henderson was an unused substitute in United’s 3-2 comeback victory over Forest.

United have already lined up £5million Turkish international Altay Bayindir as a replacement after agreeing a deal with Fenerbahce. Bayindir underwent a medical in Greece during the week in readiness for Henderson’s departure and waved goodbye to fans of the Istanbul club after their 5-1 Europa League victory over Twente on Thursday night.

Bayindir played 40 times in all competitions for Fenerbahce last season, but the Turkish club have a ready-made replacement. Dominik Livakovic, Croatia's keeper during their run to the semi-finals of the World Cup, completed a move from Dinamo Zagreb on Friday.

The latest piece of business comes after United made hard work of Forest at Old Trafford. Steve Cooper's side opened up a two-goal lead inside five minutes, only for the hosts to come back with three goals of their own to draw level on points with Manchester City ahead of the champions' trip to Sheffield United on Sunday.

"There is big spirit and energy," Ten Hag said after his team's victory. "We've seen this team can bounce back.

"If you have such a [poor] start, you need to get over it. It's not easy, but compliments to the team.

"We have the personality. In certain moments we can definitely improve, but in general this team has the character to bounce back all the time."

By the time Man Utd play their next game, the transfer window will have shut. They have a trip to Arsenal on September 3, before returning to Old Trafford to welcome Brighton after the international break.
